About this Event

Climate action, despite its urgency over the past decades, has failed to see significant improvement in the face of ongoing technical and lifestyle improvements over the same timespan. In the South East Asia region alone, the United Nations noted negative growth in the area of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action, which means that there were enough indicators that the countries in the region are going backwards in progress, instead of improvement. Furthermore, the Doomsday Clock, a metric that originally indicated the closeness of the world to ‘midnight’–a symbolism to the end of the world in terms of nuclear power, that now includes factors such as emergent technologies and climate change–has been set 4 seconds closer from the previous year, to which the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists have stated that the regression in terms of climate action was a factor, among many others. In this regard, it is important to cultivate discussions about just transitions—a term generally describing the shift to sustainable practices in production and energy generation without leaving people behind–as well as calling for accountability in global politics, who play a major role in the policies and measures at hand.

In line with the advocacy-centered mission of the organization, BU MADYA proposes the implementation of a webinar, entitled ‘GEOFESTA: Shifting to Green, Together’. This webinar, in line with the Earth Month Celebration with YACAP PH, will be held virtually, through Zoom Communications on May 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This webinar will be focusing on current environmental and climate challenges, both local and global, the importance and urgency of a just transition, as well as the current solutions provided to the masses, and the role of the youth in pushing and driving change for better policies and better solutions.
